Heritage Project

Here is a mix of print and online resources to help you learn everything about your country. Remember to keep track of where you get your information!

Books
The library has books from the Marshall Cavendish Cultures of the World series, as well as National Geographic's Countries of the World.
  • Search the catalog for books on your country. It may be helpful to use the "title"  button to search for books with your country as the title.
  • Books on geography can be found in the 900s.

Subscription Websites
These are websites that the school subscribes to so you can use them for your projects. Mrs. Caiozzo and Mrs. Buck both have the login information.
  • Country Reports: A fantastic database filled with tons of information on every country. Login required.
  • Kids InfoBits: When you search this site you get results from not just one, but many different sources (including magazines and reference books). A rich source of information.
  • Encyclopaedia Britannica: A great encyclopedia resource that's perfect for your grade level. Log into Britannica and select "View This Level." Login required.

Free Websites
These are websites that your teacher and your friendly neighborhood librarian have identified as useful for your project.
  • Kids World Travel Guide: A great site that shows different countries through the eyes of children.
  • CIA World FactBook: Use the pull down menu at the top of this page to look up your country. This site has some basic maps as well as all the "facts and figures" about all the countries in the world.
  • Library of Congress Country Studies: This site has some good information, broken down into chapters, about many different countries. You will need to choose your link carefully once you're on your country's page, but there is a lot of great information if you read carefully.
  • Information Please World Almanac Countries of the World: This site features maps, the country's flag, as well as some historical blurbs along with some statistics about the country.
  • Lonely Planet Travel Guides: Scroll to the bottom of this page to find links to many countries around the world. Each country's page includes photos, tourism information and news from the country.
  • BBC News Country Profiles: Navigation on this page is divided into several pull down menus, each one listing the countries from that part of the world (so you'll need to know where your country is before you use this site). The country pages show photos, news, facts and figures as well as a map and a picture of the country's flag.
