Smithsonian Archives of American ArtThe Smithsonian Archives of American Art is a great place to look for artwork by your artist and find some information about their work. It is not likely to have comprehensive biographical information.
Heilbrunn Timeline of Art HistoryThis site from the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York illustrates the history of art movements throughout the world using essays and objects from the Museum collections.
National GalleryThe website of National Gallery in London includes an Artist A-Z that includes information about the artists and works contained in their collections.
