Summer Reading - 6th Grade
Dear New Sixth Grade Readers,
In preparation for sixth grade, you are being asked to read at least three books this summer. Two books have already been picked for you; one is a book of your choosing.
Out of My Mind by Sharon M. Draper. You will discuss this book in English class.
A book of your choosing from the US Teacher Recommended Book Choices:
How to Disappear by Sharon Huss Roat (with Ms. Caldwell)
A Night to Remember by Walter Lord (with Mr. Goodwin)
War Horse by Michael Morpurgo (with Mrs. Harrington)
Salt to the Sea by Ruta Sepetys (with Mr. Williamson)
A third book of your choice
So you won’t forget the books you read, you will need to complete a particular “novel review sheet” for Out of My Mind and your free book choice. Nothing is required for your Teacher Recommended book. Please bring these sheets to school on the first day of class. If you read more than the three required readings, you do not need to fill out additional forms, but add the titles to your reading record form.
Your teachers and I look forward to seeing all of you this fall and hearing your reactions to books! Of course, I encourage you to read more than three books this summer, if you have the time... Summer can be the perfect time to catch up on titles you never got to during the school year. Happy reading!
