Summer Reading - 4th Grade
Dear New Fourth Grade Readers,
In preparation for fourth grade, you are being asked to read at least three books this summer. One book has already been picked for you by your fourth grade teacher. It’s Running Out of Time by Margaret Peterson Haddix. The other two book choices are up to you. One of the two must be from the selected list of teacher recommended books below. If you were a student at Applewild last year, you have already selected this book and been assigned to a group:
Tumble and Blue by Cassie Beasley (with Mrs. Buck)
Hello, Universe by Erin Entrada Kelly ( Mrs. Lent)
The Exact Location of Home by Kate Messner (with Mr. Mullins)
Chasing Vermeer by Blue Balliett (with Mr. Schrader)
So you won’t forget the books you read, you will need to complete the two activities posted on the website. Complete the “brochure” assignment on Running Out of Time, and the “grab bag” on your student choice book. Nothing is required for the Teacher Recommended book. Don’t forget to keep track of all of your reading on the 4/5/6 reading record form!
Your teachers and I look forward to seeing all of you this fall and hearing your reactions to the books. Of course, I encourage you to read more than three books this summer, if you have the time . . . Summer can be the perfect time to catch up on titles you never got to during the school year. Happy reading!
